Sola Scriptura means never looking for continuing special revelation

“The Holy Scriptures are sufficient. We don’t need any addition revelation. If somebody says, ‘The Holy Spirit told me’, I’m going to test it against the Scriptures. If it agrees with the Scriptures, then I don’t really need that additional revelation. If somebody says, ‘The Holy Spirit told me’, and I test it against the Scriptures and it contradicts the Holy Scriptures, then I know it’s wrong. The Holy Scriptures are sufficient and they don’t need any supplement […] We have no confidence that any claim to additional revelation is true, and it’s not necessary. Certainly, the Holy Spirit illumines the Scriptures as we read them, but in a fallen world that is never going to lead to complete and utter agreement.” – R. Scott Clark
